"When it comes to the organisations that provide crucial end-of-life care for our loved ones, every opportunity must be taken to support them. For too long, our hospices have relied in large part upon the generosity of the public to remain afloat. Now that they face a £100 million funding deficit, the ability of hospices to keep services free at the point of access are at risk: many have been forced to make redundancies and reduce the clinical services on offer. Our hospices are at breaking point, and the government must step in and help them continue their vital work. While recognising that there is much progress to be made thereafter, I endorse the hospices' proposal to designate money raised from FCA fines as a welcome first step."

I have already talked to the hospice association, and I am a supporter as they do excellent work. Longfields is our local hospice. For 30 years I have worked with Longfields in the care of patients with palliative illness. They provide unique support for patients locally and have been incredibly innovative. Through my GP Practice we partnered schemes to deliver arts and creativity at the end of life, and I have used their clinical service many times. I also praise their inclusion of non-cancer illness in their care packages. They have provided fantastic end of life care on many of my patients. They are an integral part of the community care of palliative illness, and we desperately need them. I fully support this bid.

Hospices provides peace, dignity and comfort to those near the end of their life. They are core to our very humanity as a civilised society and should be cherished, promoted and resourced.

I worked in hospices for 16 years, so I am well aware of the challenges the sector faces and always happy to lend my support to the cause.

Hospices across the country are faced with significant and growing pressure on funding. High inflation over the last few years has not been matched with increased state support and donations alone can’t bridge the gap. The artificial separation between the NHS and the care service was a mistake that goes all the way back to the origin of the service. MPs need to work together on a cross-party basis for a solution to this funding crisis as our need for hospice care also increases.
